The Supreme Court on Monday declined to grant an urgent hearing on a plea seeking that the rescheduled NEET UG 2026 examination be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode instead of the traditional pen-and-paper format.
The matter was mentioned before a vacation bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Aravind Kumar during the court’s partial working days.
The petition challenged the mode of conducting the medical entrance examination and requested that the National Testing Agency (NTA) hold the rescheduled test through a computer-based system. However, the bench declined to take up the matter urgently and decided to list it after the court vacation.
During the hearing, Justice Narasimha observed that the NTA was already in the process of re-conducting the examination and noted the pressure involved in organising such a large-scale national test.
