The Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has taken up 104 complaints from students of a government school in Sonipat’s Gohana over alleged encroachments around the premises and inadequate basic infrastructure.
The complaints, clubbed together as they raise similar concerns, relate to the reported absence of a playground, limited classroom space and ventilation, and inadequate sports and laboratory facilities.
HHRC chairperson Justice Lalit Batra observed that safe and adequate school infrastructure is closely connected to children’s health, dignity, safety and meaningful access to education. However, he said the allegations would need to be verified before the commission reaches any conclusion.
