New Delhi. (News Varta) : Judicial Council has expressed deep concern over the alarming rise of corruption in public administration and government institutions across the country. Judicial Council has stated that corrupt officials are acting like “white termites” that silently and systematically weaken the foundations of the nation, eroding public trust, damaging governance, and obstructing India’s progress.
Addressing the issue, Shri Rajiv Agnihotri, Chairman of Judicial Council, said that corruption has become one of the gravest challenges facing the nation today. He emphasized that while external threats to national security are visible and often attract immediate attention, corruption works silently from within, causing long-term damage to the country’s institutions, economy, and social fabric.
“Corrupt officials are nothing less than white termites. Just as termites slowly destroy the strongest structures from within, corrupt officials weaken the foundations of governance, justice, and public welfare. Their actions rob citizens of their rights, deprive deserving people of opportunities, and undermine the rule of law,” Shri Rajiv Agnihotri stated.
Judicial Council noted that corruption not only results in financial losses to the government but also creates widespread public suffering. Essential services meant for citizens often fail to reach those who need them most because of bribery, favoritism, abuse of power, and administrative misconduct. Honest citizens are forced to endure unnecessary hardships, delays, and harassment while a small section of corrupt individuals benefits at the expense of society.
Shri Agnihotri further stated that corruption is a direct attack on democracy and constitutional values. “Every rupee lost to corruption is a rupee stolen from public welfare, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and national development. Corruption destroys merit, discourages honesty, and weakens public confidence in institutions that are meant to serve the people.”
Judicial Council stressed that the fight against corruption cannot be left solely to investigative agencies and law enforcement bodies. It requires active participation from every citizen, civil society organization, professional body, and public institution. Citizens must be encouraged to report corruption, demand transparency, and support ethical governance at all levels.
Judicial Council also highlighted the need for stronger accountability mechanisms, protection for whistleblowers, speedy investigation of corruption cases, and strict punishment for those found guilty of abusing public office for personal gain. According to Judicial Council, public servants must remember that they are trustees of public resources and are duty-bound to act with integrity, fairness, and accountability.
“An honest officer strengthens the nation, while a corrupt officer weakens it. The future of India depends not only on economic growth and technological advancement but also on the moral character of those entrusted with public responsibilities,” Shri Agnihotri said.
Judicial Council called upon educational institutions, social organizations, and the media to play an active role in promoting ethical values and creating awareness about the harmful consequences of corruption. Judicial Council believes culture of integrity must be nurtured from an early age so that future generations reject corruption in all its forms.
Reaffirming its commitment to the cause, Judicial Council announced that it will continue to conduct public awareness campaigns, seminars, legal literacy programs, and community outreach initiatives aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. Judicial Council also urged citizens to unite in a nationwide movement against corruption and support efforts to build a clean, transparent, and accountable system of governance.
In his concluding remarks, Shri Rajiv Agnihotri stated:
“The battle against corruption is not merely a legal fight; it is a moral and national duty. If we wish to build a strong, prosperous, and just India, we must eliminate corruption from every level of public life. Corrupt officials are white termites eating away at the roots of our nation. It is time for citizens, institutions, and public authorities to stand together and eradicate this menace once and for all.”
