As temperatures across Delhi-NCR crossed 45 degrees Celsius, the Delhi Traffic Police have introduced specialised “AC helmets” and portable cooling devices to help personnel cope with the severe heatwave during long outdoor duty hours.
Under a newly launched pilot project, traffic police officers deployed at major intersections and busy roundabouts, including the Three Murti roundabout, have been equipped with solar-assisted cooling helmets, handheld fans, table fans, hydration kits and temporary shaded booths.
The initiative aims to protect personnel from extreme heat stress while managing traffic during prolonged eight-hour shifts under direct sunlight.
According to police officials, the specially designed AC helmets use battery-powered cooling systems to regulate temperature around the head, which is considered one of the most heat-sensitive parts of the body.
