Plan to bring areas of Karawal Nagar out of the O-Zone under the new Master Plan, says Shri Kapil Mishra*

25 new Atal Canteens inaugurated in Delhi; total number now reaches 71

New Delhi: 19 February 2026 : Delhi Government’s Minister for Art, Culture & Language, Tourism and Labour, Shri Kapil Mishra, on Thursday inaugurated an Atal Canteen at the Chauhan Patti Bus Terminal in the Karawal Nagar Assembly constituency. The Minister served meals to beneficiaries and dined with them to personally assess the quality. He stated that this initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve that no individual should go hungry.

The Cabinet Minister said that 25 new Atal Canteens were inaugurated across Delhi today, taking the total number to 71. These canteens will provide nutritious meals to the poor, labourers, and the needy at just ₹5. The aim is not only to provide full meals but also ensure nutritional support to underprivileged sections. Proper seating arrangements are available, and meals will be distributed through a token and biometric system.

The Labour Minister added that under the previous government, Delhi residents could not fully benefit from Central Government schemes. Now, under the Ayushman Arogya scheme, free treatment is available in hospitals as well as through nearby Arogya Mandirs, where free consultation, tests, and medicines are being provided.

Shri Kapil Mishra informed that two Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have already started functioning in Karawal Nagar. Additional Arogya Mandirs and Atal Canteens are planned for Bhagat Singh Colony, Khajuri, Sonia Vihar Block A, Mukund Vihar, and Ankur Enclave.

He further stated that in the public interest, there is a plan under the new Master Plan to bring areas of Karawal Nagar out of the O-Zone. This will contribute to regional development and improve the quality of life for residents.

The Minister noted that development in the Yamuna-par region suffered significantly under the previous government, with key bodies such as the Trans Yamuna Area Development Board remaining largely inactive. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, projects worth ₹728 crore have been dedicated to Yamuna-par areas in the very first year of governance. Additionally, works worth over ₹1000 crore are being carried out in rural areas through the Delhi Rural Development Board.

In Karawal Nagar alone, development works worth over ₹300 crore have been approved in the first year through CM Development Funds, MLA funds, and grants for unauthorized colonies. Shri Kapil Mishra stated that the level of development that did not take place even in the Chief Minister’s own constituency under the previous government will now be ensured across every constituency in Delhi under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

He also announced that smart boards will be installed in all government schools, and modern sports facilities will be developed through MLA funds to promote fitness and create awareness about sports careers among students.

The Minister said that sewer work is progressing rapidly in Sonia Vihar and efforts are underway to complete it within 7–8 months. Once completed, damaged or unpaved lanes will be rebuilt. Sewer work in Sabhapur has also been approved. A major benefit of the sewer system will be preventing homes from sinking in the future — a long-standing issue faced by residents. In Karawal Nagar and Khajuri, where sewer lines were laid earlier but remained non-functional, cleaning work has now begun.
