Trump mulls new bloc to sideline EU and shake up NATO

A recent report has suggested that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the creation of a new high-level international forum that would bring together five of the world’s most influential powers — the United States, Russia, China, India and Japan. The proposed alliance, informally dubbed the “C5” or “Core Five,” would represent a dramatic shift in global diplomacy and could sideline traditional Western-led structures such as the G7. The idea was reportedly mentioned in a longer, unreleased version of the National Security Strategy (NSS) that Politico says was circulated within the administration. The proposal surfaced in a report by the American outlet Politico, which said the idea appeared in an extended, unpublished version of the National Security Strategy released by the White House last week. Although the publication stressed that it could not independently verify the longer document, its existence was previously reported by Defense One.
