Grand Celebration of the Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram at Delhi Secretariat

New Delhi: 20 February 2026 : A grand programme was held at the Delhi Secretariat on Friday to celebrate the Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh — the Land of the Rising Sun — and Mizoram — the Land of Blue Mountains. On this occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister Rekha Gupta along with all the Hon’ble Cabinet Ministers of the Delhi Government extended heartfelt greetings to the citizens of both states and the entire nation.

On 20 February 1987, Mizoram became the 23rd state of India and Arunachal Pradesh the 24th.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that this event is in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat’. She said that Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram are strong symbols of India’s cultural diversity and national unity. The Northeastern states inspire the nation through their natural beauty, rich traditions, and spirit of patriotism.

Mizoram’s lush greenery and high literacy rate serve as a source of inspiration, while Arunachal Pradesh’s Buddhist monasteries, scenic valleys, and tribal diversity hold international appeal.

Minister for Art, Culture & Languages Kapil Mishra stated that Delhi is the heart of the nation and, under the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, celebrating the foundation days of all states marks another golden milestone today. Such occasions provide an opportunity to understand and honour the country’s diverse cultural heritage. He also conveyed his best wishes for the progress, peace, and prosperity of both states.

During the programme, 16 artists from the two states captivated the audience with traditional folk dance performances. The folk fusion and Cheraw dance, accompanied by vibrant costumes and traditional music, filled the Delhi Secretariat premises with the cultural vibrancy of Northeast India.

Distinguished guests and attendees present on the occasion applauded and encouraged the artists for beautifully showcasing the cultural heritage of both states.
