Consumers across India heaved a sigh of relief and optimism towards their kitchen and household budget as the GST rate cuts officially came into effect. From bustling city markets to quiet rural towns, consumers, farmers and traders are all feeling the positive impact of the reforms, which have made a wide range of daily essentials and high-ticket items significantly cheaper. Many are calling the changes a “big bonanza” and are thanking the Government for the timely relief.

“I think I would save about INR 1,000 per month in my kitchen budget, which would total to `12,000 annually, which is a big saving for the middle class. The timing of announcement may be the festivities but given the reduction of prices in all walks of life it will enhance the lifestyle too at least for all middle class and certainly for economically sections of the society,” said Ritu Johar, a resident of Kalkaji who was happy to buy her daily chores like milk, bread other consumable item at a lower price when compared to a day earlier.
