From a railway project implementation agency to a diversified infrastructure enterprise
India’s progress is reflected in the infrastructure that connects people, regions and opportunity. In little more than two decades, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), created to accelerate railway development, has evolved into a diversified infrastructure enterprise spanning railways, metros, bridges, tunnels, digital infrastructure, power, renewable energy and rolling stock.
EMERGING FROM A NATIONAL VISION
RVNL emerged from the National Rail Vikas Yojana announced by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 15 August 2002 to strengthen railway infrastructure and accelerate capacity creation. Incorporated on 24 January 2003 under the Ministry of Railways, it received its Certificate of Commencement of Business on 18 February 2003 and began operations with its Board in 2005.
