Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has directed police officials across the state to take strict and immediate action in cases involving sexual crimes, particularly offences against women and children.
The instructions were issued during a high-level review meeting at the State Secretariat, where the Chief Minister discussed crimes against women and children, fast-tracking investigations, prosecution strategies, and preventive measures with senior officials.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Vijay ordered that cases involving heinous crimes be registered without delay and investigated swiftly to ensure stringent punishment for the accused.
The review meeting comes in the backdrop of the shocking abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore’s Sulur taluk. Two men were arrested in connection with the incident, which sparked widespread outrage and a prolonged protest outside the Sulur police station by local residents and the victim’s family.
