National Akali Dal protested against the opposition on April 25 in support of the Women’s Reservation Bill

New Delhi The National Akali Dal strongly attacked the opposition parties in the press conference held on the issue of non-passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill related to providing 33 percent reservation to women. Party’s National President Paramjit Singh Pamma termed it as a serious issue related to the rights of half of the country’s population and said that it is very unfortunate that political interest dominates such an important issue.

Pamma said that women’s reservation is not just a legislative process, but the basis of social justice, equal opportunities and democratic participation. He alleged that many political parties talk about women’s empowerment in public forums, but when it comes time to take actual decisions, the same parties back away from giving proper representation to women in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies. He described it as direct injustice to women.
Regarding this issue, National Akali Dal has announced to protest against the opposition on April 25 at Jantar Mantar. Pamma said that this demonstration will be done with the aim of raising the voice of women’s rights and public awareness and similarly, protests against the opposition will be held at various squares of Delhi.
During the press conference, the party made an important announcement in the direction of strengthening the organization and appointed Bhawana Dhawan as the National President of the National Akali Dal Women’s Wing. Pamma expressed confidence that under her leadership, the women’s wing will work with renewed energy and work to elevate women to the top positions of leadership in the organization. He made it clear that the party does not want to restrict women to participation, but wants to give them an advanced role in the decision-making process.
Paramjit Singh Pamma and Bhavna Dhawan have handed over the responsibility to Renu Luthra as National Senior Vice President in the new team, while Ruby Jindal and Sona Batra have been appointed as National Secretaries. Rosi Virmani has been given the post of General Secretary and Sushma as Secretary in Delhi Pradesh Women’s Wing.
Pamma said that getting 33 percent reservation for women is their constitutional right and this will strengthen balance and inclusiveness in the country’s political system. He said that women will play a decisive role in achieving the goal of a developed India by the year 2047, so ensuring their active participation in policy making and decision making is the need of the hour.
Pamma also said that even though the Women’s Reservation Bill could not be passed in the Lok Sabha, the National Akali Dal remains committed to providing equal opportunities, respect and leadership to women. He challenged the opposition and said that if they are really pro-women, they should support this historic step and not obstruct it for political reasons.
In the press conference, party’s national secretary Vikrant Mohan, Delhi state president Kuldeep Singh Marwah, national president of social wing Rashmeet Kaur Bindra, Delhi president of education wing Ridam Chadha were present. All the leaders reiterated their resolve to take concrete and effective steps to protect the safety, dignity and rights of women.
National Akali Dal gave a clear message on this occasion that overall and balanced development of the country is not possible without the empowerment of women. Increasing women’s participation at political, social and organizational levels is the greatest need of the day.
