28 JAN 21 The Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray will inaugurate five new Cyber Police stations in Mumbai today. As of now, Mumbai only has one Cyber Police station located at Bandra Kurla Complex which is under the Mumbai crime branch. The five new cyber police stations will be located in South, Central, East, West and North regions of Mumbai Police. The five new dedicated Cyber police stations will help tackle the growing number of cyber crime cases in each region helping citizens who earlier approached the BKC based cyber police station with their complaints. The five police stations will also reduce the burden of local police stations which also handled cybercrime cases with help of the Cyber police station. Increased law enforcement in terms of cybercrime could help a number of data theft, identity theft, spear phishing, online banking fraud cases and also stalking and extortion cases that have been reported in the recent past.
