14 Jan 21 Kashmir continues to freeze under extreme cold wave conditions. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This is the lowest minimum temperature recorded in decades.This is the lowest minimum temperature seen since 1991 when the temperature recorded was minus 11.3 degrees Celsius in Srinagar. Since then this is the first time such extreme temperatures have been recorded in Srinagar city.
On Wednesday, the minimum temperature recorded was minus 7.8 degrees. Due to the freezing temperatures, people living in the city woke up to frozen taps and slippery roads. “The temperature has dipped even further. The minimum recorded has gone to minus 8.4 degrees. It is a very cold phase of the winters this year,” said a MeT official in Srinagar.
